Modern herbal practice in England and its use of Milk thistle consists of adding the extract to other herbal combinations that the individual practitioner would decide upon having taken a detailed case history.  In Germany however there are a few companies which market herbal products that contain Milk thistle.  Legalon tablets are a German proprietary preparation that contain 35 mg of silymarin each, two to four tablets to be taken three times per day after meals, for up to four to six weeks, then the dose can be reduced to just one tablet three times per day.  Other German proprietary products are found to be on the market containing the whole extract of Milk thistle.  One preparation called Chol-Grandelat contains extracts of Milk thistle, Dandelion and Rhubarb, with added Ox bile with one to two tablets to be taken after meals, three times per day.  Another product is Hepafungin that also contains Milk thistle and Dandelion, in extract form with a dosage of five to ten drops before meals, three times per day.  Marianon preparation combines the extracts of Milk thistle, Greater celandine, Yarrow, Wormwood and St John's wort and added choline, to be taken three times daily at a dosage of ten to twenty drops.

Blackmores health products also have a liver tonic that contains 84 mg of silymarin per tablet, with a dosage one tablet three times per day.
