THE BENEFITS OF THE USE OF BURDOCK
IN HERBAL PREPARATIONS
INTRODUCTION

Arctium Lappa, or commonly known as Burdock, is a biennial plant that yields fuzzy, large heart-shaped leaves the first year, and grows purple flowers that mature into hooked burrs the second year. It has been used for centuries as an alterative or “blood purifier”, as a diuretic, and to treat numerous types of skin conditions. In this study I will touch on the historical uses of Burdock; its identifying characteristics and where it can be found; the chemical constituents of the plant; its medicinal qualities; contra-indications or things to be careful of when using this plant; known herbal remedies using Burdock; application and dosages of Burdock remedies; and any personal experiences I may have encountered throughout my studies.
