As there are no known formulas or specific medicinal ways to use purslane, there are, therefore, no exact dosages to recommend.

It would be beneficial to a person’s health to eat a generous serving of purslane every day, whether raw in a salad, added to soup, or steamed like a vegetable.

As James Duke discusses in his book The Green Pharmacy, including purslane in one’s diet can be very helpful in treating or preventing a wide variety of conditions.  This is due to purslane’s abundance of Vitamins A, C, E, plus magnesium, calcium, and other minerals, as well as the important omega-3 oils and other valuable chemical constituents.

Mr. Duke highly recommends adding purslane to our diets, as often as we have access to it.   He discusses in detail the many benefits of purslane, and how it may help in many different conditions.

Victoria Boutenko, who wrote the book The Raw Family a few years ago, has recently published a new book called Green for Life.  In this new book, Mrs. Boutenko talks about the importance of greens in our diet, and describes the research she has done on this in the last few years.  She suggests making “Green Smoothies” every day, with a mixture of fresh greens such as spinach or kale, and fresh fruit to sweeten the taste, such as apple and banana.   This mixture is run through the blender, making it a smoothie.   Mrs. Boutenko includes a long list of possible fresh greens to use in the “Green Smoothie”, including wild weeds which can be picked from the yard such as purslane.
